Dakn داكنْ
Bilna’es بالناقص
A multigenre producer, rapper, selector and performer, Dakn داكن is an artist in constant motion whose music evolves with each project and performance.
Raised in Ramallah, Palestine, Dakn’s unflinching lyricism, vivid wordplay and distinctive delivery established him as a key artist in the Palestinian scene. Throughout the 2010s he and Saleb Wahad (Minus One), the collective he belonged to alongside artists like Julmud, Muqata’a, Shua, Faragh and more, formed the vanguard of the freeform, fiercely experimental hip-hop scene that developed in the city. In 2018, he and Julmud performed back-to-back at Boiler Room in Ramallah, the platform’s first broadcast from Palestine.
Alongside a constant flow of solo experimental rap releases, Dakn maintains a steady presence across the scene via collaborations and guest appearances on projects in Palestine, Egypt and beyond.
Unbound by genre, Dakn’s development as a producer parallels his growth as a lyricist. His productions range from twisted bass-heavy club experiments to the delicate, textural and expansive ambience. His debut album too low, too far, a collection of nine tracks exploring the physical experience of trauma, was released on Bilna’es in 2020.
In recent years Dakn has released collaborations with artists like Egyptian producer Azzouni and the New York-based musician Hiro Kone. In 2024, he mixed one side of the Another Sky mixtape, released through London label OTOROKU, featuring his own tracks alongside work from like-minded producers spanning ambient, noise, jungle and more.
As a performer, Dakn’s live sets unfold in multiple distinct modes–he’s as capable of performing as an MC as he is of delivering a live ambient set. With a range of new projects to be unveiled in the near future, Dakn’s already vast sonic will continue to expand.
