Pinch’s position at the forefront of bass music culture has been undisputed since he came up in the early 2000s. From the versatility of his productions to his widely hailed skills as a selector and label head of the influential Tectonic Recordings, the Bristol-based soundsystem heavyweight has made an indelible impression on club music.
From the outset of his career, Pinch has merged dubstep meditation and grime’s sharp angles with techno propulsion, resulting in seminal albums and 12″s on leading labels including Planet Mu, Soul Jazz, Honest Jon’s, Deep Medi, Swamp 81 as well as on his Tectonic home turf. In tandem, he’s collaborated with an impressive list of equally revered producers including Adrian Sherwood, Shackleton, Roska, Neffa-T and Photek, created the AV project Red Rabbit with Lorem and worked with premier league MCs such as Trim, Riko Dan and Killa P.
As a DJ, Pinch’s approach has focused on presenting upfront club music for a broad spectrum of dances, from top tier clubs to major festivals across the world. At the helm of Tectonic, he’s extended this approach by platforming artists exploring immersive, impactful electronic music with physicality at its core — sub-bass that moves through your nervous system like a fine-tooth comb and percussion that whips the muscles into motion.
Constantly breaking new ground, Pinch’s work continues to be defined by fresh approaches to the time-honoured practice of chest-rattling low-end and echo chamber experimentation.
