Jokkoo Collective

Jokkoo, a Wolof word meaning connection, was founded in Barcelona with the intention to investigate, connect with and contribute to experimental and alternative arts from the African continent, its diaspora and allied communities around the world. They platform dissident, experimental interventions that create moments for sharing energy and ideas, histories and visions of the future. The collective counts on six different personalities with common objectives, Baba Sy, Maguette Dieng (Mbodj), Oscar Taylor (Opoku), Nicolas Beliot (Mooki6), Ismäel N´diaye (B4mba) and Miriam Camara (TNTC).

Organic Intelligence (O.I.)

In Organic Intelligence (O.I.) Jokkoo Collective invites the audience into the deep time of the mangroves, to explore their vital role in resistance and adaptation to the current climatic crisis driven by colonialism, capitalism and its inherent extractivism. The piece focuses on resilience, growth and interconnectedness and is based on Jokkoo’s collaborative electro-acoustic performance practice, with live visuals by Akyute. Together they create a speculative future which imagines the mangrove as a neural network shaped by the complex interrelationships between species and environments, with the capacity to reclaim global stewardship from the economic elite.
